Wreck and Reference - Black Cassette

This is some pretty awesome thing posted by the band in the shoutbox here, Wreck and Reference, "doomy experimental rock" would be the best label.
Listen and download 'ere: http://wreckandreference.bandcamp.com/

The Wizar'd - Pathways Into Darkness

The Wizar'd used to be a medicore, slightly underinspired trad.doom band. It took them 6 years and numerous releases to find their sound and create something really worthy. 2010's "Pathways Into Darkness" brings us great, harsh trad.doom with amazing expressive vocals. Yeah, the singer is bad. But was Ozzy a good singer, technically? No. Is Albert Witchfinder? Not really. Ol' Rusty Vintage Wizard Master (hail cheesy doom stage names) has this raw, indeed rusty voice and he's finally not affraid to use it.

Jucifer / Show of Bedlam split

I dig it when a split has a "famous" and a new band facing each other. Though both collectives are "new" for me, as this is the first time I'm exposed to either of them. Two 'girly' bands. "Female fronted metal". You know, like Nightwish and Evanescence.
Jucifer deliever a fair dose of harsh punkish sludge(core). Now, Show of Bedlam is a promising newcomer, with a mix of retro, psychedelic sound, doom and twisted female vocals. My personal favourite is "Miss Johnny Shirt", where the vocal palette includes spoken word, 70's singing and screams.

The Lamp of Thoth

Another post that should be tagged "Doom" many times...
I Love the Lamp demo <<< love it >>>
Oh yes I do, I do love the Lamp!! Traditional doom metal at its best, with the accent on traditional. Most trad.doom bands only incorporate "sabbathisms", but not the Lamp, oh no, they go further and add the 80's to the 70's, they are heavy on NWOBHM influences. Aaaand they are proud Englishmen.
Their demo (just like all their material) has a pretty raw but warm and enjoyable sound and what's more important, great compositions, interesting songs, riffs-riffs-riffs.

Portents, Omens & Doom <<< yer doom >>>
Their full-length effort brings no disappointment... The Lamp of Thoth keeps on delivering first class trad.doom.

Sing as You Slay <<< _dsfas__ >>>
Aaaand finally an EP with some bonus tracks.

Buy their stuff, most of them are avaible at doom distros. They have splits with all kinds of bands, EPs, 7"s...

Wreck of the Hesperus - Terminal Dirge

no compromises blackened funeral doom from Ireland. This is their first demo, and it's one of my favourite records lately. Raw sound, but not in that bedroom-black-metal way, just muddy enough to deliever the kick. All their stuff is highly recommended!
(oh, and this is post no 67, so Einstürzende Neubauten was no 66, you know, that is, SHAITAN! BURN!!)

As Light Dies - Ars Subtilior From Within The Cage

Not the stuff you usually see here (because the stuff you usually see here is ABSCENCE get it -snort snort-). This is progressive gothic metal, or something along those lines. They mix a whole lot of styles. Complex songs, dramatic vocal delivery (male clean & growl, female clean sometimes), violins. But not in your usual "gothicslash folk metal" way when the violin is just used to repeat a simple catchy melody from time to time. No. As Light Dies, and G-d blesss 'em for it, use the violin as a real instrument. Way to go!

Horseback - The Invisible Moutain

A very decent release. I'm tired to write an overview... so

Dragonauta - Cabramacabra

Yet another doomy greatness!! This time from Argentina, singing in their native Spanish and kicking ass the stoner way. I highly reccomend this album becaue it doesn't represent your standard stoner sound, but offers a unique way of smokin' and rockin'. And great songwriting skills! Not a single unneeded sound, everything HAS to be there, each riff, each break, each solo. Great vocals. Get it, I'm not capable of writing a better overview right now. Believe me, this is great shit.

Lord Vicar - Fear No Pain

This post only needs one tag: Doom. Or maybe I should tag it twice: Doom, Doom. Yeah, that's what I'm doing. Because Lord Vicar is all about doom. In that good old traditional way. A tradition that never existed before its own revival. Whatever. Slow heavyness, epic vocals (not in the power metal sense), the way it's supposed to be.
And this is a supergroup. Now, I don't usually like supergroups, but in this case, all members are just supposed to do what they are the best at: doom. This album is a masterpiece. Timeless in that "stuck in the 70's, remastered to fit current 'trends' or tastes" way. I'll just tag it once again, I hope blogspot allows multiple-tag-repeats.

Edit: Damn you!, blogspot, for not allowing multiple uses of the same tag. DOOM.

Dead Raven Choir - Their Feet Are The Foraging Ground Of Wolves

Might as well just post another DRC release... to keep this blog's tradition going. "Their feet.." was released by the obscure-but-stilll-well-known-in-obscuro-town Jewelled Antler Collective in their series of 3" CDrs and features three lengthy tracks, mostly centered around huge gaps of silence and slow-slow acoustic guitar progressions plus the usual smolkenish mumblings&ramblings.

Uaral - Lamentos A Poema Muerto

Chile's best. Doom metal meets classic guitar lessons. This album is truly a masterpiece, with lengthy compositions revolving around acoustic passages, piano, chanting and occassional outbursts (in that doomy slow way) of growling and distortion. An amazing listen. This is their second effort. The first album is in a similar vein, but less sophisticated and includes more shitty synth strings.

Letargy Dream - 2

One of my favourites from 2008... and 2009, as this album was released on 29th of December. So obviously I only got it in 2009. Yeah. Three lengthy compositions are presented here, a mix of death-doom, doom, traditional, with psychedelic overtones, great quality, good musicianship. And great lyrics (in Russian). A truly talented band. Get this album from Solitude Productions, it's totally worth it.

Umbra Nihil - Gnoia

The guy from Aarni. Great doom/funeral doom, with down-tuned guitars and some synths. Garrgarr, fuckin great.
And this time I extracted the archive and checked each song. Should be fine and corruption-free.

Aarni - Tohcoth

Aarni is back, with an album so good that I almost feel guilty for sharing it. Actually, their previous effort Bathos achieved the same effect. So please, if you like the music, head over to their site (aarni.info) and buy these albums.
Tohcoth evolves the same recipe and takes it to the next level. We have doom metal in the base, with lots of prog, folk and experimental elements. Very atmospheric layered songs. Amazing instrumentals. Chanting!! Secret societies!! It's only April, but this album might just be the best of 2008.

Electric Wizard - Come My Fanatics...

You just can't have enough Electric Wizard. Okay, the new album kinda sucks, but both Dopethrone and Come My Fanatics... are masterpieces.
<<< link broken >>>

(oh, and I uploaded it to shareonall.com, not sharebee.com. I will be using shareonall from now on, a bit faster for me and more options. In this case five: rapid, mediafire, depositfiles, megaupload, zshare)

Have heavy fun.

Aarni - Bathos

I'm back, with this occult-themed Cthulhuian funeral doom, call it whatever you like. Aarni's Bathos is a hilarious record, with doom riffs, growls, synth passages, clarinet, good solos (yes, I, the non-solo-lover like the solos on this album!). Finland, Finland, Finland, the country where I want to be.
Good stuff.
